Wingfoil Fuerteventura: Best Time to Visit 🌬️
Best Time to Visit Fuerteventura for Wing Foil: Month-by-Month Guide
> TL;DR — The best all-round months are May (light wind, empty beaches, low prices) and September (strong wind, summer crowds gone, 30% cheaper). June–August gives the strongest wind but requires booking 3+ months ahead. April and October are ideal for total beginners.
Fuerteventura is a year-round wing foil destination, but "year-round" does not mean every month is the same. Wind strength, water temperature, tourist crowds, accommodation prices, and flight availability all shift dramatically across the calendar. This guide gives you the real data our Corralejo school has collected over 8 years — not generic weather forecasts.

April and May: The Best-Kept Secret Months
April and May are the months we recommend most often to beginners asking when to come. Here is why:
- Wind is 12–20 knots — consistent, steady, not overpowering. Ideal for learning foil control. - Beaches are empty — no school holiday crowds. The Corralejo Lagoon is quiet and spacious. - Flights are 30–50% cheaper than peak summer from most European cities. - Accommodation is easy to find — you can book two weeks out and get good rooms. In July you need three months. - Water temperature reaches 20–21°C — comfortable with a 3mm wetsuit. - Instructor groups are smaller — April and May are when we run our lowest student ratios.
The one trade-off: on some days in April, wind can drop below 12 knots and we switch to land-based technique sessions. This happens 2–3 days per month on average and is included in all packages at no extra charge.
June to August: Peak Wind, Peak Everything
The summer months bring the strongest, most reliable NE trade winds of the year. For intermediate and advanced riders, June–August is Fuerteventura's gold standard. For beginners, these months are still excellent — but come prepared:
- Book lessons and accommodation 2–3 months in advance. Corralejo fills completely in July and August, especially during French and German school holidays. - Wind can reach 28–32 knots on peak Vendaval events. On these days, we relocate beginner lessons to protected spots like El Cotillo. - Prices are 40–60% higher than April–May for equivalent accommodation. - Corralejo town is busy — restaurants, parking, and lagoon access are crowded. We start sessions at 09:00 before the crowds arrive.
For families with school-age children, July–August is often the only option. In that case, book as early as possible and choose our week-long wing foil camp — it guarantees your slot and provides structure for the whole week regardless of wind fluctuations.
September and October: Our Honest Recommendation
If you asked every instructor at our school when to come, September would be the consensus answer:
- Wind remains strong: 15–22 knots through most of September, often as good as June. - Water temperature peaks: 24–25°C in September — the warmest of the year. October drops slowly to 23–24°C. - Crowds disappear: European school holidays end in late August. September crowds are 60–70% lower than August. - Prices drop: flights and accommodation fall 25–35% below August peak. - Conditions are stable: calima events are rare, rain is almost zero, visibility is excellent.
October adds a slight risk of the first Atlantic low-pressure systems bringing a day or two of variable wind, but statistically most of October still delivers solid trade wind conditions. For beginners, October is excellent — similar to April but with warmer water.
November to March: The Off-Season Reality
The Canary Islands winter is mild (18–22°C air, 18–20°C water) but the wind becomes less consistent:
- Trade wind still blows, but with more gaps and lighter average speeds (10–18 knots) - Occasional Atlantic storms bring rain, swell, and south winds — unrideable for 1–4 days - Not recommended for beginners who need daily consecutive practice sessions - Good for intermediate riders who can pick their days and want uncrowded conditions - Prices are at their lowest — 30–50% below summer. Combining Wing Foil with a Family Holiday in Fuerteventura
Wing foil travel with non-riding family members is more practical in Fuerteventura than in most wind sport destinations. Here is how different months work for mixed groups:
April–May (recommended for families) Non-riders have beach weather without summer intensity. Corralejo town is pleasant and uncrowded. Day trips to the Parque Natural dunes, Isla de Lobos ferry (20 minutes), and the south of the island all work well. Water is warm enough for swimming from late April onwards.
June–August (peak family season) School holidays align with the best wind — which is both the benefit and the challenge. Book everything 3 months ahead. Non-riders will find Corralejo at its liveliest: markets, restaurants, water parks, and glass-bottom boat tours to Isla de Lobos are all operating at full capacity.
September (best value for families) Our top recommendation for families who can travel outside school dates. Water is at its warmest (24–25°C), wind for lessons is reliable, and non-riding family members enjoy uncrowded beaches and restaurants. Prices are 25–30% lower than August. Families who choose September overwhelmingly report the best experience.
Budget Planning: Wing Foil Trip Cost by Month

Note: our week-long camp packages bundle accommodation + lessons from 116€/night all-inclusive — typically 15–25% cheaper than booking separately.
Frequently Asked Questions: Best Time to Visit Fuerteventura
Is Fuerteventura good for wing foil in winter? Yes, but with caveats. The trade wind is less consistent November–March. Experienced riders who can pick their days will find uncrowded conditions and very low prices. Beginners need consecutive daily practice and winter does not guarantee that — we recommend April–October for first-time learners.
What month has the strongest wind in Fuerteventura? July and August consistently record the strongest average winds, with 20–28 knot days common. However, September remains strong and adds warmer water and far fewer tourists.
Can you learn wing foil in Fuerteventura in October? Yes — October is one of our favourite beginner months. Water is at its warmest (23–24°C), wind is steady at 12–18 knots, and beaches are quiet. Prices are 25–30% below August peak.
How many days do I need for a wing foil trip? A minimum of 7 days. This gives you 5–6 actual session days, which is enough to reach sustained foiling for most beginners. Our wing foil camp is designed as exactly 7 days for this reason.
