Flag Beach Wind – Forecast & Best Conditions for Wingfoil

Flag Beach — known to locals as El Burro — stretches along the east coast just south of Corralejo, facing the channel towards Lobos. That orientation is the key to its reputation: the prevailing North-East trade wind arrives along the beach as a clean cross-shore to side-on wind, exactly the angle every wingfoiler wants. You are blown parallel to the shore and gently back towards land.

Typical Wind Direction & Strength

  • Direction: North to North-East trade — cross-shore to side-on, the safest rideable angle
  • Summer: commonly 15-25 knots, peaking in the afternoon
  • Morning window: often lighter 12-18 knots — friendlier for improvers
  • Winter: more variable, with windy spells between calmer days

Tides and Water at Flag Beach

The wind is driven by the trades, but the tide shapes the water. At low tide the inside becomes shallow and more rock is exposed; at mid-to-high tide the bay opens up with cleaner, deeper water. This is why local timing matters — see the full Flag Beach spot page and the Flag Beach wingfoil guide.

Best Time of Day & Season

Late morning to mid-afternoon is the classic window: the thermal effect adds to the trade wind, so it is strongest after lunch then eases towards evening. May to September is most reliable. For the wider picture, read the Corralejo wind guide.
